13:10 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died {f} before God.
(f) Before the Ark for usurping that which did not belong to his calling: for this charge was given to the priests, Nu 4:15, so that here all good intentions are condemned, unless they are commanded by the word of God.
13:10 Put his hand, and c. - Let the case of Uzza warn us, to take heed of presumption or rashness with regard to holy things; and not to think, that a right intention will justify a wrong action.
13:6-14 Let the sin of Uzza warn all to take heed of presumption, rashness, and irreverence, in dealing with holy things; and let none think that a good design will justify a bad action. Let the punishment of Uzza teach us not to dare to trifle with God in our approaches to him; yet let us, through Christ, come boldly to the throne of grace. If the gospel be to some a savour of death unto death, as the ark was to Uzza, yet let us receive it in the love of it, and it will be to us a savour of life unto life.
